No more poked eyeballs

One of our more interesting commissions this month was a challenge to create an umbrella that didn't intrude on others during rainy walks on crowded city streets. This is what we came up with; the folding, folding umbrella:

It's a wide, 40inch diameter umbrella with a silk canopy and hand-lathed mahogany handle. So far so pretty normal. But can your umbrella do this?

Yes, this umbrella folds! So how does it work?

An ingeniously designed device (even if we do say so ourselves) means that a short tug on the base of the shaft causes several basing wires attached directly to the canopy itself, to pull the canopy into an inverted bowl shape. The functional aspects  of the build are, although extremely effective and practical, completely unobtrusive.

Exactly what many have come to expect from James Drench and Sons!
